Sam Boylett-Long - Strength and Conditioning/Sport Science Blog

I'm Currently based at Brentford Football club (Main gym space above) working as a Strength and Conditioning/Sport Science Intern alongside my Funded MSc in Human performance at Brunel.
I feel my time at BFC is a great opportunity for me to gain further hands on experience with elite level athletes along with completing my MSc in Human Performance.
Prior to joining BFC for this 2014/15 season, I was based at Brighton and Hove Albion FC as a Sport Science Intern, alongside working as an Assistant S&C coach for Worthing RFC. Again this time was invaluable, given the chance to work with high level athletes in two contrasting sports, whilst having the chance to broaden my skillbase by learning about GPS systems and the power it has to help govern training loads.
Post University, I was able to obtain a S&C placement with the Scottish Institute of sport (SIS). During my time with the SIS, I was lucky enough to be involved with a range of athletes across many sports such as Swimming, Volleyball, golf, wrestling and curling to name a few. Having progressed with a few athletes, the opportunity arose to coach multiple international athletes on a 1-2-1 basis. I was later given responsibility over two junior squash players who essentially, just needed a lot of encouragement and enthusiasm whilst working through their programmes.
During my time at St Mary's I gained a BSc in S&C, Friends and valuble contacts. To gain as much experience as possible, I decided to lead S&C sessions for the mens Rugby Union team and also helped out with the rowing club. Alongside coaching I shadowed the Head of S&C at Ealing RFC, which enabled me to play around with novel ideas I had seen implemented, whilst putting my own spin on them.
